Our Beliefs

Introduction

We give lots of specifics below for those who want to know exactly how we view God and the Bible.

The short-version is that we are “Apostolic” because we follow the teachings and patterns of Jesus Christ through the Apostles as recorded and preserved in the New Testament. So if you visit our church, or attend one of our small groups or Bible Studies, you will eventually hear someone say “We try to speak where the Bible speaks, and be silent where the Bible is silent.” We are not perfect at it, but we take this pretty seriously as a core belief about being Christian.

We are not against any particular church denomination or prominent figures in church history. I am a huge fan of church history and love the efforts and words of many who have gone before us, but we look to the Bible as the sole and final authority in matters of doctrine and practice. I suggest that you should do the same.

With Love in Christ,
Pastor Scott Lynn

We Believe in the one true and living God…

…maker of all creation, the all-knowing, all-powerful, everywhere-present, eternal Father; the source of all goodness, truth, and love; Who has manifested Himself in His Son, Jesus Christ, for the purpose of redemption and as the Holy Ghost for the purpose of intervening in the lives of people.

(Deut 6:4-5, 1 Tim 1:17; Col 1:15; 2nd Cor 5:19, 1st Tim 3:16; 6:13-16)

We Believe in the divine inspiration of the Scriptures…

…and that the original manuscripts of the Old and New Testaments of the Bible are the inerrant Word of God given through people, and that the Scriptures we possess today are the sufficient rule of faith, and practice and the final authority for truth and salvation.

(2nd Tim 3:16; 2nd Peter 1:16-21)

We Believe in the gospel of Jesus Christ…

…which declares Him to be the only begotten Son of God, who was born of a virgin and who lived to show us the words and works of God. As the Savior, He was crucified and died on the cross in our place to be the supreme sacrifice for sin. He was buried in a tomb but rose again the third day, as the Scriptures foretold, and is now exalted as King of kings and Lord of lords. As God manifested in the flesh, Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man, and in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily.

(Acts 10:38-40; 1st Cor 15:1-4; Col 2:8-9; 2nd Cor 5:19)

We Believe in the original Apostolic plan of salvation…

…commanded by Jesus Christ and proclaimed on the Day of Pentecost on the birthday of the New Testament church. This includes faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, sincere repentance, water baptism by immersion in the name of Jesus Christ, and receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost as a joyous supernatural experience – just as the believers did in the first century. This plan was prophesied in the Old Testament, taught by Jesus in the Gospels, practiced by the Apostles in the book of Acts and confirmed throughout the New Testament Epistles.

(John 3:5; Matt 28:19; Mark 16:15-17; Luke 24:45-49; Acts 2; Acts 10:40-48)

We Believe in living a life of holiness…

…both inwardly and outwardly, as a result of the working of God’s grace in us, for the Word of the Lord declares that all who name the name of Christ should depart from sin and separate themselves from the evil practices of this present age.

(Eph 4:21-24; Col 2:6-7; 2nd Tim 2:19; Hebrews 10:14; 12:14)

We Believe in practicing genuine Christianity…

…through love for God and people, prayer, obedience to the Word of God, heartfelt worship and expressive praise, sharing our faith, commitment to marriage companions and families, availability to help one another in time of need, honesty and diligence in our employment, honor and respect for our government as it submits to the divine plan for human society, and the dedication of our time, talent, and treasure to advance the kingdom of God on earth.

(John 13:35; Romans 12:1-2; 1 John 4:7-11; 1st Cor 13:4-7)

We Believe in the local and universal church…

…established by our Lord as a unique and special fellowship for all who believe. It is the spiritual community ordained for worship, stewardship, and service to God and people, of which every believer must become a part, for it is the body of Christ in the world today, displaying the same miraculous power and spiritual gifts experienced by the early church.

(1st Cor 12:12-31; Eph 4:3-16)

We Believe in the return of Jesus Christ…

…that glorious appearing when our Lord shall come with the sound of a trumpet, when both those who have died in Christ and those who now live in Christ will rise to meet Him in the air to be with Him forever.

(Matt 24:31; 1st Cor 15:51-55; 1st Thes 4:13-18)

We Believe in the judgment of all people…

…when the wicked shall receive their punishment and the righteous shall receive their reward. We believe in the ultimate triumph of righteousness and in the life everlasting.

(Romans 14:10-12; 2nd Thes 1:5-10; Rev 20:11-21:8)
